Karpatians Piatra Neamt

Our last destination, Piatra Neamt, is a friendly city at the foot of the Carpathian mountains. The city is surrounded by the mountains – Pietricica (590 m), Cozla (679 m), Cernegura (852 m), Bâtca Doamnei (462 m) and Cârloman (617 m), at an average height of 345 m.

The arrival was very pleasant thanks to ous guide Iulian Gherghel, who was very dedicated to show us around. At the higher edge of the city there was a dirt road alongside a stream where we drove past chalet-like houses with slate roofs against a background of steep mountain slopes covered with spruce trees. This was the and fresh mountainous atmosphere we hadn’t experienced yet on this trip. We checked in at a lovely chalet, with very caring hosts.

From here we walked up the path that goes through the forest and leads to several ditches and pools in which we found all the species we came to see. Among them our target species: Lissotriton montandoni.
